4.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BUILD QUALITY & PERFORMANCE FROM SONY, March 26, 2014
By
Jonathon (San Francisco, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony KDL40W600B 40-Inch 1080p 60Hz Smart LED TV (Electronics)
I've had my new Sony KDL-40W600B for months now (I actually have the COSTCO version/same specs almost). This TV is an amazing value when you factor in that a Sony 40-Inch can be found for just $500. With LIMITED-APPS (listen carefully when I say LIMITED as Sony and Amazon are still at odds and there is no Amazon, Amazon Prime Instant, VUDU, HBO-To-Go or M-Go) and built-in Wi-Fi !

I was impressed with the build quality right out of the box. Sony has cut a few corners and yet enhanced so many others that this still exceeds anything Samsung or LG could offer.

PROS:

*Ease of set-up. My 85 year old mom could almost set this up...
*Picture depth and color as only Sony can accomplish/great angle viewing
*Great but simple remote.
*Fabulous SETTINGS in the set itself.
*Weight
*Speed to process ON/OFF and other functions including sparse APPS
*4 HDMI's and 2 USB slots
*Not Made In China (my set comes from Mexico)... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy, April 23, 2014
Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Sony KDL40W600B 40-Inch 1080p 60Hz Smart LED TV (Electronics)
I'm just a regular media consumer...I'm not a picture quality enthusiast, but review websites seem to give this set high marks. I spent a considerable amount of time (too much time, honestly) researching a new TV to purchase. My previous TV was a 32inch Samsung but apparently that size is what people are putting in their bathrooms now. I wanted to get something thinner, lighter, a little bigger, and with a higher resolution. I also wanted to stick with a more reputable brand because of concerns about manufacturing quality and the availability of parts/repair labor if that becomes something I need in the future. The Smart features, particularly Netflix, I will likely use but I'm not particularly interested in them because I already have so many devices that have streaming capabilities (blu ray player, video game consoles, etc.) and those features were not really factored into my purchase decision.

This TV is incredibly lightweight (15lb) and was super quick to physically... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive image quality and value, April 23, 2014
I previously had a Samsung UN40ES6580 40 Inch TV with 240Hz refresh rate, with 3D and Skype camera. I like gadgets and features but I found myself paying for a smaller TV for features such a 3D and Skype Camera which I pretty much never used. (who cares about having a Skype camera on a TV when you have cameras in cell phones, tables and computers? What was I thinking when I got tempted by this feature?!). Don't get me wrong, the TV was really good. I even left a review giving it good rating. However I liked the image quality I never could fall in love with it. Specially blacks, I could see some little gray areas in a dark room in some dark scenes which drove me crazy.

Now, I switched TVs. Left the toys aside for a bigger screen size and better image quality which I thought Sony was able to provide. And I wasn't wrong and Sony delivers impressive image quality with this TV, even though the refresh rate is lower than the Samsung (so you cannot choose the "soap opera"... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Gamer Review - No Smart TV Features, No Problem, March 26, 2014
By
Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I'm a gamer. I have an Xbox One. I use it to (obviously) play games, watch Netflix and YouTube, listen to music, and even browse the Internet occasionally. And if I had a PS4, I know it would offer many of those same features.

It's for this reason (because I own an console that already does everything) that I DO NOT want a more expensive Smart TV with a bunch of built-in apps that I don't care about. Instead, I simply want a basic, reasonably priced, high-quality LED on which my Xbox One interface will look great. And this TV... it delivers. It is a 'stupid' as they come when it comes to LED TVs and that makes me very happy.

Additionally, newer Toshiba TVs have an excellently responsive Game Mode. Just go look over on the Input Lag database (search Input Lag Database on Google) and you'll see that Toshiba offers some great options. This TV isn't in the database yet, but I decided to go ahead and gamble and buy it anyway... and after a couple of days worth of... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great No Frills LED TV, April 2, 2014
Verified Purchase( What's this?)
If you are shopping for a TV but don't need all the bells and whistles that come with a smart TV, then i highly recommend this unit. It is a very attractive unit - slim and stylish. Best of all is the picture! So clear and bright. Definitely worth looking at when shopping for a reasonably priced LED TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome TV for PS3 and PS4!, April 21, 2014
By
Jay Man (Olivia, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toshiba 32L2400U 32-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED TV (Electronics)
I was specially looking for a non-smart TV just for gaming and I picked this one. There seems to be a few problems with Samsung Smart TV's freezing up and I did not need that option anyway. If you are looking for a smart TV, I would recommend buying a Roku with this TV. You can't go wrong for the price since it is a 1080 TV. Also this is not a true 120hz TV, only in cinema mode and I did not see any difference in gaming and I am not using gaming mode since this TV seems fast enough. This TV is also a gloss finish which makes the picture more crisp! Once thing I noticed playing Battlefield 4 on my new Samsung and LG TV, that there is a certain map that has a cave and I can actually see with the Toshiba inside the cave and the LG and Samsung I could not, so I always hated playing that map till now

The colors are nice and crisp and there is no delay in the response time with the controller. I am using a HDMI connection and did a few adjustments on the colors from a previous... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A quality TV, April 23, 2014
Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: LG Electronics 47LB6300 47-Inch 1080p 120Hz Smart LED TV (Electronics)
UPDATE: 6/09/14: The update that allows access to the LG App store has been pulled apparently. Was reading the comments here and I called LG to confirm. Also the price of the 47 inch model has been fluctuating, mostly downwards.

UPDATE: 5/2/14 : LG APP STORE has launched on this television, bringing free apps such as Pandora, Crackle, Dailymotion, Picasa, there are more but a simple search should show what is available, just trying to give a brief update. Also, the price has decreased on this television set. In addition to the TV software update, there was also an update to the magic remote. The LG TV is still a growing ecosystem. It also appears to allow you to purchase movies/tv episodes through Vudu. Will try to give a better write up when I have more time to experiment with the new menu.

Ordered the LG 47LB6300 after my Samsung UN46C6300 went bad, and I will try to use this as my basis for comparison.

First off, the item came well packaged, and I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart TV done right, April 12, 2014
Verified Purchase( What's this?)
WebOS on the LG TV's is front and center, and not an afterthought. This is currently the best implementation of "Smart TV" technology. WebOS is quick and responsive. As of the writing of this review (4/12/14), the LG Store (app store) is not yet launched. So the only apps you have access to (installed by default) are: Neflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Skype, and a Web Browser. The web browser is ok, but not great. I have an Amazon account, and I can say that the experience is great with the amazon app. I am presuming Netflix works well too. In the amazon app, when you exit and return, it puts you right back into where you left off, nice feature.
The picture, sound and typical TV elements are great so I won't review those - needless to say I am very happy with the Audio/Video quality.
The TV was easy to mount on the wall using CheetahMount (another great product).
In regards to the remote control, this model using a "Magic... Read more

This review is from: LG Electronics 47LB6300 47-Inch 1080p 120Hz Smart LED TV (Electronics)
I have to say I really like this TV and am glad I picked it. The smart remote is interesting and really seems like a logical progression from the old large remotes. For anyone not in the know it puts a pointer on the screen that you can move like with the Wii. I upgraded from a 7 year old Sony I purchased back when 720P was the affordable option. The picture quality difference is immediately obvious even on just digital cable channels which I really wasn't expecting. As others have stated setup is quick, easy and cute with it's childish cartoon graphics. I had no problem finding my 5ghz wireless N network. Once connected via the setup wizard (about 20 minutes with channel searches) each app I tried immediately prompted me for updates. the updates took a minute a piece including download, installation and then firing up. mine included the LG Store and browser right out of the box or it updated immediately without my noticing. Netflix. Amazon, Vudu and Hulu worked flawlessly upon first... Read more
